Steve Peterson

Steve has been described as one of the “unsung heroes” of the dynamic modeling community. With 25+ years of experience in applying and teaching dynamic modeling, Steve brings a broad range of knowledge and deep experience to Lexidyne.

Steve’s client work typically involves the design, development, and dissemination of dynamic models. In recent projects, he has applied dynamic modeling in a diverse array of topic areas, including strategy design, personnel management, finance, marketing analysis, and process-improvement. In other project work, Steve applies the dynamic modeling framework, language to design and deliver facilitated sessions aimed at bring disparate groups to the “same page” around organizational strategies. He has worked in a wide range of industries, including government (Defense, Energy), pharmaceuticals, foundations, and automotive, and financial services.

Much of Steve’s professional career was spent at High Performance Systems, Inc. (now iseesystems). While at High Performance Systems, Steve played a lead role in the design and development of the iThink/STELLA software. Additionally, Steve played a prominent role in client engagements, as well as in the design and delivery of workshops focusing on the practical application of the software.

Steve taught a popular course on system dynamics at Dartmouth College in the 1980s, and is currently a frequent guest lecturer on dynamic modeling applications in business and research contexts at a several campuses.

Steve’s publications include a chapter in Modeling for Learning Organization (Morecroft & Sterman, editors) as well as numerous articles for the Systems Thinker newsletter. With N. Narayandas of Harvard Business School, Steve developed the interactive simulation Managing Customers for Profits, published by Harvard Business School Publishing. While at HPS, Steve was the lead author of the software technical documentation and contributed multiple applications to the product suite.

Steve holds the BA, summa cum laude, in Economics from The Colorado College (1980). He holds the MS from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College, where his focus was on System Dynamics.
